October 2026: the Committee is in place and the clock is running

What changed officially

On 8 September, Cabinet Act 28/2026 was published in the Government Gazette (FEK). It establishes the Government Committee on Nuclear Energy and gives it 24 months1 to deliver its Final Report. The countdown on the site’s home page runs from that point: this month the Committee is in the second of its twenty-four months.

The Act provides for regular meetings every 2 months1. According to a report by energypress on 13 October, the first meeting was set for 14 October at the Ministry of Environment and Energy (YPEN), with further meetings on 5 and 25 November, and an IAEA official was to present the IAEA’s milestones approach2. No official announcement or minutes had been published when this note was written; once they are, they will go into the timeline.

What we did on the site

The site moved to nuclear.gr. Old nuclearpower.gr addresses redirect automatically to the same pages.

We added the "Where Greece stands" table for the IAEA’s nineteen infrastructure issues. It shows what the site has documented for each one and calls its gaps gaps: issues we have not yet examined are marked as such, and will be closed one at a time.

We also added a contact form, a newsletter, a page of useful links to the official bodies and four games (all in Greek for now), a new section on Greece’s energy transition, and this English section for readers outside Greece.

What we are waiting for

The first public announcement from the Committee or its Technical Project Team, and any legal framework text put out to public consultation. Both will be covered here with the text itself alongside, not on the strength of press reports about them.
